Christmas Baking

Do you know what I love most about Christmas time?

Baking sweet treats!

I love making treats for the families Sterling visits and the ladies I visit. My mom always did this growing up, so I decided I need to do it too! :)

Yesterday I made Sugar Cookies... I swear my mom's recipe is the best. (I think everyone says that.) And her icing recipe is the only icing I will eat. I am guilty of always wiping off any icing, whether it is on cake, cookies, whatever, they never taste right. I tried something new this year. I put red food coloring in some of the dough to make "candy cane" cookies, but the food coloring changes the consistency of the dough. It didn't really work, so I gave up after 6 cookie attempts. Maybe I'll try again next year.

I also made Hello Dolly's. Mmm... my favorite treat. Maybe I just love eating the graham cracker crumbs mixed with butter. Anybody else simple love that? You can click on the link for the recipe. Except our family recipe doesn't add in any sugar or nuts and we use a 9x9 pan.

I also made some Candy Cane Chocolate cookies for the first time. They were ok. I little weird and I wouldn't eat them. Oh well, I always like trying something new.

And I made M&M cookies. I use my mom's chocolate chip cookie recipe and it is the best. I don't usually like Chocolate chip cookies, but there are two recipes in the world that I can eat. My mom's and my sister, Michelle's, McClellan Family recipe. My family members are Chocolate Chip cookie connoisseurs. Apparently when my parents first got married they tried tons of different Chocolate Chip cookie recipes and combined some different recipes and created their own. These cookies are best fresh. The McClellan recipe is really good a few days old. And everyone who has tried them has always loved them.

Then I put all of the treats in cookie tins and add packets of different flavored hot chocolates (courtesy of Costco) and some candy canes and voila, enough sugar to make you sick for days!

And this year I made ornaments for our families and my Primary kids.
My ornaments looked a little different but this is where I got the idea from. The tag says:

Remember, remember

try always to be
as the man who walked
the shores of Galilee

I had a lot of fun yesterday, but I don't even want to think about sugar for at least a few days!

I love Christmas baking!

Merry Christmas!

I might have to get that icing recipe from you! I don't like icing either... I have a poured one that is OK, but I still haven't found that perfect one.

Last year I found a different kind of food coloring that was a gel consistency. That might work... You also might try taking out a little bit of some other liquid (milk, oil, butter, etc.) to compensate for the difference.

That's probably a good idea for the food coloring. I was surprised since I only put in three drops. I might try the gel next time. I'll send you a message on Facebook of the icing recipe.

I think we need the sugar cookie recipe also :) It is kind of funny but I thought the Hello Dollies were the ones with the hershey kiss in it. Live and learn.
