First, we all got colds. Poor JJ was sick for the first time. But in hindsight it wasn't too bad (comparatively). Then on Cinco De Mayo, Sterling and I went to our favorite, hole in the wall, taqueria. We got food poisoning there. Ugh. (I did lose 5 lbs though!) The next day we drove down to Sterling's mom's house for Mother's Day. We got stuck in traffic for over an hour, so our 4.5 hour drive turned into 5.5 hours and I got carsick sitting in the back with JJ. He cried the entire trip. He definitely hates his carseat!
Then the next week Sterling got this really bad sickness that gave him the worst sore throat he's ever had. He missed a week of work and was on antibiotics. I got mastitis and was on antibiotics too. I felt like I was going to die. Then a week later, it resurfaced. Ouch!
At this point, I noticed JJ stopped gaining weight, but thought he had just plateaued. Then Sterling got sick again with something! (I didn't kiss Sterling for a month because he didn't want to chance getting me and JJ sick!)
Then JJ stopped eating! So stressful! I could tell he was hungry, but he couldn't get any milk. My supply had deminished from the mastitis and JJ was only drinking 1 oz at a time. After 3 doctor's appointments and 2 lactation appointments, and lots of pumping, oatmeal and fenugreek and feeding every hour, we got my supply to an "acceptable" level. Oh ya, JJ also won't take a bottle. Believe me, we have tried every bottle at BRU and five different formulas and breastmilk. We still struggle with before bed feedings.
Then I got mastitis again! And I'm on my second round of antibiotics right now.
Thank goodness JJ has not really been sick through it all. At his 4-month appointment, JJ was 13 lbs 10 oz (25th percentile) and 26.5 inches tall (95th percentile.) I have more pictures of our favorite little guy!
Look at our big boy! He loves his big boy chair! And loves eating dinner with us!
JJ's first time eating rice cereal. He loves eating sweet potatoes. They're his favorite!
Hi!!!
One year ago, on Memorial Day, we found out we were pregnant with JJ. Last year we did a 5 mile hike through a waterfall loop. We wanted to go hiking again but the weather didn't agree. So, we still drove up the Columbia Gorge. We went to the Vista House (we've drove past it a ton of times but have never been.)
Daddy and JJ at the Vista House, overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.
Pic of the fam! It was gorgeous up there!
We couldn't go to the gorge and not see at least one waterfall. JJ loved all of the trees and listening to the sounds of nature. He loved it!
Before we had JJ, I swore we wouldn't co-sleep, but for the first 6 weeks, he only slept in my arms. But then we started swaddling and he now sleeps in his bed until morning. Usually I can get an extra hour of sleep if he sleeps in bed with us. I have to say, I love the cuddle time!
And sometimes I use that extra hour to actually shower or eat breakfast. Aah, I never knew how much I would enjoy a quiet shower or even a shower at all!
I love my boys!

oooo, i love the sight of swaddled babies!! :) it just tickles me!
i'm so sorry you guys have been so sick! and mastitis - YUCK! you guys are troopers - it sounds like an absolutely awful month and a half. i hope things are on the upswing!
and i also swore i wouldn't co-sleep before i had kids. ha! funny how things change once you're actually a mom. i've had lots of things like that and i hope that the people (with kids) who heard me then don't want to smack me too much. :) but, man! when you are totally sleep deprived and that's the only way you get ANY sleep, you do what you have to do. i can't co-sleep for too many months without becoming a nervous wreck, but there are actually several things i really, really love about it. for a little while, at least... there is nothing like your own bed when it comes down to it! :)
Wow! I hope you all get better. I know it is rough.
Wow anna. That is horrible about all the sickness and mastitis. How stressful! I'm so glad to hear things are getting better! I love your little family pictures. It is so so cute! JJ is absolutely adorable. He makes the greatest faces! I still need to hold him!!
Excellent Post, thanx for sharing the same.. Will keep on reading the post.
