Poetry

At PSU we have to take some classes called cluster classes. We chose a "cluster" and then have to take three classes that pertain to that cluster. I chose to take the American Studies Cluster and I decided that this quarter I was going to take American Literature from 1865 to Present. Come to find out, we read a lot of poetry in this class. Now... I am a Finance Major, quite the opposite of poetry and literature, and there is a reason for that. I have always struggled with my English classes. Simply put, I love numbers. I decided to take this class because I wanted to expand my knowledge and become more well-rounded in my education. Boy, am I already feeling the tug on my comfort bubble.
I have my first paper due on Thursday. Thankfully, my professor lets us rewrite the paper as many times as we want to get a better grade!!! Hallelujah! We had the option of picking any one of seven topics. I chose to write my paper on, "Choose two Frost poems (I chose Birches and After Apple-Picking) and make connections with two or three of Frost's points in "The Figure a Poem Makes." It is definitely a lot harder than it seems. First, I had to read all of the Frost poems in my textbook and then actually understand them. Then I had to try to understand what Frost was saying in "The Figure a Poem Makes." Then I had to figure out how they even relate to each other. So far I have about two pages written and not much said. Sigh. Anyone good at analyzing poetry?
I'm going to be so happy when we actually move on to the novels.
Only a year left of school. :)

Wow, I need help just understanding what you just said :) I teach 6 year old kids that c-a-t says cat. That is about as complicated as my life gets. Good luck. There are certain things about college that I do not miss. Writing papers is one of them.
